Who cares how much money you have, where you live or how many degrees you have…
Are you even fucking happy?
Seriously.
I have spent over a decade in “successful” women’s entrepreneur spaces and we are always categorized (and categorize ourselves!) by how many six or seven (or eight!) figures we earn….
and I want to yell…
ARE YOU EVEN FUCKING HAPPY?
Because if you are…AMAZING! If you are living your most creative, joyful and pleasurable existence then BRAVA SISTER!
Money can definitely be a tool to leverage happiness because it opens up doors and choices.
I spent many years in my adult life living month-to-month, transferring credit card balances from one no-fee credit card to another to get through tight times…I know that there is no inherent HAPPINESS in struggling to get by!
However, if you are in the multiple six or seven-figure earning category as a woman entrepreneur and you are NOT HAPPY…you might have simply reallocated your stress-anxiety-and-practice-of-being-hard-on-yourself from how to get by month-to-month over to how to earn five figures a month or how to crush some arbitrary client acquisition goal.
And in this process, I am curious — have you unconsciously colonized YOURSELF with the goals that have been given to you by the do-more-own-more-have-more culture?
To colonize something — or a people — is to establish foreign control over them or their territory. To put the OBJECTIVES and WISHES of a controlling body onto someone else…sometimes even without them knowing.
Recently, I have been redesigning how I do EVERYTHING in my business and in my life…and my central question is, “Does it bring me pleasure or joy?” I have been gobsmacked by how many things I do because some part of me THINKS or BELIEVES that it is what I should do to be “successful”.
Well how the hell do I even DEFINE success?
For REAL success because we will all SAY things like health, family, blahblahblah…but the TRUTH of what you prioritize is in WHAT YOUR LIFE LOOKS LIKE DAILY.
You can tell me all day long that you prioritize your health and family but if you are investing 80% of your time in a crappy work situation, carrying around unforgiveness and resentment toward your partner or mother, scrolling social media and comparing yourself to others than your LIFE is showing back to you what you are REALLY prioritizing.
And MY LIFE was showing me what I was REALLY prioritizing too.
I was prioritizing anxiety, someone else’s goals and comparison. I was also prioritizing getting all kinds of dopamine hits by being BUSY and “working” all of the time.
It is the whole wolf is sheep’s clothing thing…I THOUGHT that I was prioritizing freedom and accomplishment but actually it was my old worry and anxiety running the show!
Hilarious, aren’t we?!
It is why it is important to WAKE UP and really engage in joyful curiosity in ALL THINGS when it comes to looking at your life. :-))
What I have uncovered is my pleasure, my joy and my happiness are readily available when I nourish myself with kindness, play, creativity, love, connection, space, freedom, movement, rest and delicious food-water-air-earth-people!
And when I AM kind, playful, loving, connected, spacious, free, moving, and restful my LIFE is a success! And so is my business!
From this EMBODIED PLACE I can live a low key life with real human connection, real earth connection and real LIFE connection.
I care less and less about how much money I have in the bank and more and more about laughing everyday, practicing yoga-walking-hiking-swimming daily.
I care less about hitting some number goal (financial or number of clients cloaked with the word “impact” which is just another way that my desires were colonized by a dominate narrative that is not mine) and more and more about creating a real lived life that reflects my heart, soul, health and values 100% of the time.
That is what I am up to over here.
