“You become dumb when you are dysregulated, stupid when you are stressed.” ← Not me specifically but a person which DOES include me. 🙃This changes when you learn how to feel safe in your body.
My coach and I were exploring how to be even more “regulated” (i.e. NOURISHED and SAFE) in my business and professional life, beyond simple nervous system regulation.
How to FEEL IN MY BODY more relaxation, safety, and groundedness with every single part of my business (including what and how I sell, what I offer, what my pricing is, who I hire, how I write this book that I am writing, how I expand my public speaking).
Everything. It adds up when figuring out how to feel safe in your body.
Like most women entrepreneurs, as much as I love love love 90% of what I *get* to do in my business day-to-day, there are parts of my work that can frankly feel just like WORK. And not the kind of work that requires me to log long hours.
I mean the EMOTIONAL-SPIRITUAL WORK of pivoting out of UNsafety.
Oh UNsafety you crafty little bitch!
After all of the mindset training, trauma healing, somatic processing, nervous system regulation, and past life regressing, exploring SOFTNESS in my body when the animal part of me wants to brace and run or freeze and disappear can still bring me to my knees. (sometimes, it’s just so hard to know how to feel safe in your body!)
Often for me, the most difficult practice is BEING SOFT.
💕Softening into the swing of my hips for 60 seconds while I am stirring my tea rather than running numbers in my head to ensure that everything adds up for the month.
💕Softening into my breath when I realize the shallow-barely-breathing I can do when I sit glazed in front of the screen beyond my 40 minute limit. [My writing rule is every 40 minutes I get up for a 10-15 minute sun-stretch-saunter to keep myself VIBRANT and FRESH.]
💕Softening into non-linear movements as I move through my home: office to kitchen, kitchen to bedroom, bedroom to office…rather than efficiently scurrying in order to “maximize my time” which can minimize the pleasure of being a human woman who wants to skip, twirl, moonwalk, and tango, just for fun.
(I’ve written before about my own addiction to striving and always doing something, because for a long time productivity felt far safer to me than stillness.)
If you want a regulated nervous system or to have less stress, it starts with SAFETY. And learning how to feel safe in your body as a whole.
UNsafety creates rev, clench, gripping, and tightening. ←This puts your body into a survival state and, YES, you can meditate, do breath work and the like but if you want to do something incredibly effective…create safety every single day.
That WORK can feel heavy and sometimes strewn with emotional landmines including worry, vulnerability, fear, and the discomfort of stretching beyond my limits.
Since I am a regular ‘ole gal just like you 🙋♀️ some of those decisions can tumble me around in ScarcityVille and A-FearedLand.
(Learning to create safety internally has also changed my relationship with peace. I wrote about that strange realization in the story of the day I finally decided to unpack my peace.)
Learning how to feel safe in your body isn’t about eliminating uncertainty, stress, fear, or the parts of life that stretch you.
It’s learning how to stay WITH yourself when those things arrive.
This is a big part of the work I do in private mentoring.
We walk shoulder-to-shoulder through the season you’re actually in — your work, relationships, decisions, desires, patterns, fears, and all of the very real stuff happening in your life — while paying attention to what your body, heart, and deeper knowing are communicating underneath all that thinking.
We might talk. We might work with breath or sensation. We might notice where you’re gripping, overriding yourself, or automatically reaching for an old pattern. And together, we begin locating the doorways back to your own inner wisdom.
Because for me, nervous system regulation isn’t about becoming perfectly calm or adding another self-improvement assignment to your list.
It’s about creating enough nourishment and internal safety that you can soften, listen, and meet your life from a different place.
If you’re ready for that kind of support, my private mentoring experiences are created around YOU: your needs, your desires, your rhythm, and the season of life you’re moving through.
